Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Katha AI app and this website (together, the "Services"), made and operated by Traction Labs, based in India ("Katha", "we", "us"). By using the Services you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Katha.

1. The Services

Katha is an app for reading stories and writing your own with the help of AI. You can generate chapters, covers, character portraits and narration, keep your stories private or publish them, and read, like, follow and comment on stories other people publish.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Katha. By using it, you confirm that you are. We may close any account we believe belongs to someone under 18.

3. Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code, so keep your email account secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Use one account per person, and do not share it or create accounts to collect free credits.

4. Your content

You own the stories, characters and comments you create on Katha, including the text Katha generates for you, to the extent the law allows.

You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process and display your content as needed to run the Services. When you publish a story or post a comment, this licence also lets us show it to other users and feature it in the app. Published content stays available, under an anonymous name, after you delete your account unless you ask us to remove it first.

You are responsible for what you create and publish, and you must have the rights to anything you upload.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Katha to create, publish or share:

  • Sexual content involving anyone under 18, or content that sexualises children in any way.
  • Sexual content about a real person, or content that harasses, threatens, defames or impersonates anyone.
  • Content that promotes violence or hatred against people because of who they are.
  • Instructions for weapons, drugs, self-harm or other serious harm, even within a story.
  • Content that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark or privacy.
  • Spam, scams, or anything illegal.

Do not try to get around credit limits or safety systems, scrape or resell Katha's content, reverse-engineer the app, or interfere with the Services.

6. Reporting and moderation

You can report a story or comment from its ⋮ menu, block a writer, or email hi@thetractionlabs.com. We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or close accounts that break these Terms.

7. AI-generated content

Stories, images and narration on Katha are generated by AI. They may be inaccurate, unexpected or similar to existing works, and they are not advice. Review what Katha generates before you publish it; these Terms apply to it like any other content. You can report AI-generated content that is harmful or offensive from the app.

8. Credits, subscriptions and payments

  • Reading is free. Creating chapters, extra character images and narration uses credits.
  • Getting credits. New accounts receive free credits. You can earn more in the app, subscribe to Katha Plus (weekly, monthly or yearly), or buy credit packs. All purchases are made through Google Play, and prices are shown before you pay.
  • Credits are a licence to use features in Katha. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, refunded for money or transferred.
  • Subscription credits are added each period and do not roll over. When a subscription ends, its credits and credits you earned in the app expire. Credits you bought as packs do not expire.
  • Renewal and trials. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. A free trial, where offered, becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.
  • Cancelling. Cancel in Google Play (Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Google Play under its policies. If a purchase is refunded, the credits it gave you are removed.
  • Failed generations are refunded to your credit balance automatically.
  • We may change prices or plans. Changes to an existing subscription apply from your next renewal.

9. Our intellectual property

The Katha app, website, design, brand and the stories we publish as Katha Originals belong to Traction Labs. You may not copy or use them except as the Services allow.

10. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Katha and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users or the Services. We may also change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Services.

11. Disclaimer

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that they will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate or suitable for any purpose.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Traction Labs is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data or content, arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Indemnity

You agree to compensate Traction Labs for any claims, losses or costs arising from content you publish or from your breach of these Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live outside India, you keep any protection given to you by the mandatory consumer laws of your country. Please contact us first; most problems can be resolved quickly.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the date at the top, and notify you in the app of significant changes. Continuing to use Katha after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

16. Grievance Officer and contact

For complaints about content or these Terms, contact our Grievance Officer, Prasanna, at hi@thetractionlabs.com. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
