Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Katha AI ("Katha", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the Katha AI app and this website (together, the "Services"). Katha AI is made and operated by Traction Labs, based in India.

By using the Services you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Katha.

Information we collect

Information you give us

Account information: your email address, the name you choose, a public handle, an avatar or profile photo, and an optional bio. We sign you in with a one-time code sent to your email; we do not use passwords.
Content you create: story ideas, stories and chapters, characters, cover images, narration you unlock, comments, and the settings you choose for a story.
Photos you choose to add: a profile photo, or a photo you attach as a style reference for a character portrait. A reference photo is used once to create that portrait and is not stored.
Feedback and reports: messages you send us from the app or this website, your votes on features, and reports you make about content.

Information collected automatically

Usage information: the stories you read, search for, like, save or follow, the writers you follow or block, your reading streak and your credit history.
Device information: device model, operating system, app version, language, and identifiers created by the app for analytics and notifications.
Approximate location: a country or city estimated from your internet address, used for analytics. We do not collect precise location.
Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data.

Purchases

Subscriptions and credit packs are sold through Google Play. Google processes your payment; we never see your card details. We receive a record of what you bought so it reaches your account.

We do not collect your contacts, calendar, files, browsing history, health information or advertising ID, and the app never records audio.

How we use your information

To create and maintain your account and sign you in.
To provide Katha's features: writing, illustrating and narrating stories, your library, publishing, comments, credits and purchases.
To personalise what you see, such as recommendations based on your interests.
To keep Katha safe: reviewing reports, removing content that breaks our Terms, and preventing abuse.
To understand how Katha is used and to fix problems.
To send notifications you have allowed, and to reply when you contact us.
To meet our legal obligations.

AI features

Katha uses AI service providers to write, illustrate and narrate stories. To do that, we send them what the feature needs: your story idea and settings, character details and the story so far, or the text of a chapter to narrate. We do not send them your email address or account details. We do not use your content to train our own AI models.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.

We share information only:

With service providers who help us run Katha, under agreements that limit their use of it: cloud hosting and storage, AI services, web search for fact-checking, analytics, crash reporting, payment and subscription management, push notifications, and email delivery.
With other users, when you choose to make something public (see below).
For legal reasons, when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or Katha.
In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

What other people can see

Everything you write is private until you choose to publish it. When you publish a story or post a comment, it is visible to everyone who uses Katha, along with your public profile: your handle, name, avatar, bio and published stories. Your email address, private stories, drafts, reading history and purchases are never shown to others.

Storage and security

Your information is stored on secure cloud servers, which may be located outside India. We protect it with encryption in transit, access controls that keep each account's private data separate, and limited access by our team. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information, except:

Published stories and comments stay online under an anonymous name, so readers do not lose them. Ask us before you delete your account if you would like them removed.
Purchase records are kept, anonymised, as required for accounting and tax purposes.
Feedback and reports you sent are kept without your name attached.

Deleted information may remain in backups for a short period before it is overwritten.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (You → Delete account) or through our account deletion page, which explains exactly what is removed.

Your rights and choices

You can view and edit your profile in the app, turn notifications off in your phone's settings, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or delete your information, or to object to or restrict how we use it. To make a request, email hi@thetractionlabs.com from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days.

Children

Katha is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete any account we learn belongs to someone under 18. The All-ages setting lets adults create stories suitable for younger listeners; it does not make Katha an app for children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect.
