Privacy Policy
Last updated 10 September 2026
Katha AI is made by Traction Labs. This policy explains what information Katha AI collects, why, who it's shared with, and what choices you have. We've tried to write it so you can read the whole thing in under five minutes.
If anything here is unclear, email us at hi@thetractionlabs.com and we'll explain.
The short version
- You can use Katha AI as an anonymous guest without giving us anything.
- If you sign in, all we ask for is your email address, verified with a one-time code. No password, no Google or Apple login.
- We don't collect your date of birth or age. We don't collect location, contacts, camera, or microphone data.
- We don't collect an advertising ID. Katha AI does not show you tracking-based ads.
- Your stories are private until you choose to publish them.
- Some of what you write is sent to AI providers (Google Gemini, OpenRouter, RunPod) so they can generate text, images, or narration for you. We do not send them anything that identifies you as a person.
- You can delete your account at any time, in-app or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your personal data. Stories you deliberately published stay online, with your name removed — see "Account deletion" below.
Who we are
Katha AI is a product of Traction Labs. Katha AI lets adults write AI-generated stories, turn them into audio narration and cover art, read stories other people have published, and follow, comment on, and like published stories.

Accounts
Every new install of Katha AI gets an anonymous guest account automatically, without you entering anything. You can use most of the app this way.
If you want to keep your account across devices or reinstalls, you can claim it by entering your email address. We send a one-time code to that email through our authentication provider (Supabase Auth) and you enter it to sign in. There is no password to remember, and we don't offer Google or Apple sign-in.
Your profile can optionally include a username, display name, avatar image, a short bio (up to 200 characters), what you're using Katha AI for, and your preferred genres. All of these are things you type in or upload yourself, and all are optional.
Information we collect
Content you create
- Stories and chapters you write or generate
- Characters you create, including a saved character library
- Comments you post, and the comments and likes on other people's stories
- Bookmarks, follows (of stories and of other authors), and your reading history
- Activity and streak data (which days you used the app)
Stories are private by default. Nothing you write is visible to anyone else unless you turn on the "publish" toggle yourself. When a story is generated, our safety system checks whether it involves a real, identifiable person — a public figure or a private individual — and if so, keeps that story private even if you try to publish it.
Drafts you haven't generated yet are stored only on your device, expire automatically after 7 days, and never reach our servers unless you generate or publish them.
Device and technical information
If you enable push notifications, we store a push notification token, your platform (iOS or Android), and a device identifier, linked to your account, so we can send you notifications. This is deleted when you delete your account.
We do not collect an advertising ID (IDFA/AAID). Katha AI does not request tracking permission and does not use your data for ad targeting.
Permissions we ask for
- Photo library (iOS): so you can pick a photo as a style reference when generating a character portrait, or to set a profile avatar.
- Notifications (Android): so we can ask permission before sending push notifications.
We do not request camera, microphone, location, or contacts access, and no user audio is ever recorded — every voice you hear in the app is AI-generated narration of text.
How your content reaches AI providers
To generate stories, images, and narration, parts of what you write are sent to outside AI providers. Here's exactly what each one receives:
| Provider | What they receive | What it's for | Identifies you? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Gemini API | Your story prompt/seed text, chosen genre, and character names and descriptions | Generating story text | No — no user identifier is sent |
| OpenRouter (text models) | Same as above | Generating story text | No — no user identifier is sent |
| OpenRouter (Gemini image models) | Your prompt details, and — only if you choose to attach one — a photo from your library as a style reference | Generating cover images and character portraits | No — no user identifier is sent |
| RunPod (MiniMax Speech-02-HD) | The full text of the chapter being narrated | Generating audio narration | No — no user identifier is sent |
| RevenueCat | Your Katha user ID | Linking your purchases to your subscription entitlements | Yes, by design — this is how your purchase is applied to your account |
| Expo (push notifications) | Your device's push token | Delivering push notifications | Indirectly, via the token |
| PostHog (analytics, EU-hosted) | Standard app-lifecycle events and device properties (device model, OS version, app version, locale, time zone) | Understanding overall app usage | No — you are not personally identified |
| Sentry (crash reporting) | Diagnostic and crash data, if and when this is turned on | Fixing bugs and crashes | Not currently active |
A note on the photo-reference feature: if you attach a photo of a real person as a style reference for a character portrait, the AI uses it only to inspire an artistic style. The generated character art is always original artwork — it is never a likeness or reproduction of that real person's face — and the photo itself is not kept by Katha AI after the image is generated.
Purchases go through Apple's App Store or Google Play billing. Katha AI never sees or stores your payment card details.
Where your data lives
Our database and file storage run on Supabase, hosted in Seoul, South Korea. The AI and infrastructure providers listed above process data in their own regions under their own agreements with us.
Why we use your information
We use the information above to: run the app and generate your stories, images, and narration; keep your account and library in sync; let you interact with published content (comments, likes, follows); send you notifications you've opted into; understand overall app usage so we can improve it; and provide customer support.
We do not sell your personal information.
Account deletion
You can delete your account any time, from inside the app or by emailing hi@thetractionlabs.com. Deleting your account permanently removes your personal data — with one deliberate exception: stories you chose to publish publicly stay online, with your name replaced by an anonymised byline, so that other readers don't lose access to work you shared with them. Full details, including exactly what's deleted, scrubbed, or retained, are on our account deletion page.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete your account and personal data (see above)
- Export your data in a readable format
Email hi@thetractionlabs.com to make any of these requests, and we'll act on it.
Children
Katha AI is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, if that's higher). We don't knowingly collect information from children, and we don't ask for or store date of birth or age for anyone. Katha AI's "kids mode" is a content-style filter that adult users can apply to the stories they generate — it does not turn Katha AI into a child-directed product, and accounts remain intended for adult users.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections and access controls — to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
